Have you read anything good lately?  We have!  Next month we will be kicking off our virtual journal club as a way to discuss some of our favorite articles with AccrualNet members.  For our inaugural journal club, we’ve selected “Factors and Outcomes of Decision Making for Cancer Clinical Trial Participation.”  And we are fortunate to have the author, Dr. Barbara Biedrzycki, joining us to present the study’s key findings and their application to practice.  We are hoping it will generate a great discussion.

For those of you unfamiliar with journal club, it's a way for people to come together to discuss an article, often in an informal setting.  One person acts as facilitator and leads the discussion.  The facilitator prepares questions to stimulate discussion, encourages participants to join in, and answers any questions that may come up.  Particpants read the article in advance of journal club and come prepared to contribute to the discussion.  For our virtual journal club we'll come together online and over the phone for our discussion.

Over the years I've participated in journal club at various work settings and always found the discussions interesting. And now with the increased emphasis on evidence-based practice, journal club is a great way to keep up-to-date with the literature.

In the coming weeks we’ll post logistic details such as date and time to the Journal Club page of AccrualNet. If you are a member of AccrualNet, you will receive an email inviting you to join us for journal club.  And if you’re not a member, this is the perfect time to join!
